Selling Tips
It's so easy to Sell your products here in the WasteManagementNetwork.com Auction House! For those accustomed to auctioning, go right now to create an auction to get started. Below, you will find a list of items to consider when setting up your auction:
  1. Gather the info you'll need before you prepare your listing:
    • your item description
    • the URL (web site address) for any pictures (see the photo tutorial to learn how)
    • the category you'll list under
  2. Go to the Sell Your Item form, fill in the info, and review your listing. Be sure to check the information carefully, then click on Submit My Listing.
  3. You'll see a confirmation page; jot down the info, such as your item number. This will be helpful if you want to update your listing, and to keep track of your item's status as your very own auction progresses!
  4. When your auction closes, contact your winning bidder or bidders within three business days. You'll want to confirm the final cost, including any shipping charges, and tell them where to send payment. When the bidder meets your payment terms, you fulfill your end of the agreement by sending them your item. Your auction forms a binding contract between you and the winning bidder or bidders.
And then that's it-your item is sold!

More Tips

Ready to get the most out of your WasteManagementNetwork.com selling experience? Check out the suggestions we've gleaned from our experienced sellers:

Give a Complete Description
  • To avoid questions later, try to anticipate questions people may have about the item.
  • Be sure to specify who will pay for shipping.
  • Don't forget to mention the location of the item and whether you'll ship internationally.
Add a Picture
  • You can boost sales by showing off your item with an image or photograph.
Provide Terms For Sale
  • To make sure you get paid for the items you sell, include the payment method and shipping terms in your listing.
  • Accepting more secure forms of payment (such as credit cards), gives you more ability to verify the buyer.
  • You may want to insure the item before shipping.
  • For higher-priced items, bidders may be more likely to bid if you offer an escrow service.
Limit Private Auctions
  • Private Auctions are appropriate for items not intended for mass viewing.
  • But keeping track of the high bidder can be harder, so private auctions aren't popular with bidders.
Keep Your Auction Going
  • Many WasteManagementNetwork.com bidders wait until the very last minute to place a bid.
  • That means you may be missing out on additional bids if you end your auction early.
Be Courteous To Bidders
  • Remember, this is a potential buyer—and you want the sale!
  • Take the time to write in complete sentences, with a salutation and a closing when you send an email.
Talk Person to Person
  • If you feel uncomfortable about your deal, sometimes a quick phone call is a great way to resolve misunderstandings.
  • Remember, many people don't read their email every day. A call may also be the quickest way to reach your buyer.
FAQs on Selling
Q.   How do i find my Auction results?
A.   Eager to see how things went? The best way to do this is to use My WasteManagementNetwork.com, an at-a-glance trade activity page where you can check auction results.
Or just head for the Search section!

Q:   Can I change my items start price or quantity?
A:   Sorry, but once your auction has started, you can't change the starting price, quantity, or reserve price. That's why it's important to carefully check your listing before placing it. If necessary, you can always end your auction immediately.

Q.   Can I edit my item after the auction starts?
A.   You bet! If there have been no bids, you can revise the description or title, edit the payment or shipping terms, and add or change an image. This option is available from a link located below the specific information of a particular auction on the actual auction page (the page where the item is listed). If there have been bids, you can change the item's category or add to the description. From Services go to Buying and Selling Tools and select Change my item's category or Add to my item's description. You'll need to have your item number on hand. Note that changing categories can change your fees if you change to or from a category with fixed price listings.

Q.   How do I end my auction immediately?
A.   Just go to Buying and Selling Tools, under Services, and find End my auction early. Remember, though, to cancel any bids before doing this.

Q.   What if the reserve price is not met when the auction ends?
A.   Then, both the seller and the high bidder are released from the obligation to complete the transaction.

Q.   How do I learn more about the bidders on my item?
A.   You can correspond directly with your bidders. You'll find their email addresses in the bidding history section of your auction page. If you request a user's contact information by using the registered user information request page, you'll receive an email containing the other person's email address, User ID, company, city, state, country, zip code and phone number. Your information is sent to them at the same time.

Q.   What if I can't contact the buyer by email?
A.   First, check the buyer's contact information. You have to be registered. Both you and the buyer will be sent an email with each other's contact information. Of course, this information is to be used solely for WasteManagementNetwork.com-related matters! If you think the contact information is wrong, please contact us directly for assistance.

Q.   What if the high-bidder backs out?
A.   If you've struck out in your efforts to reach the high bidder, you can move on to the underbidders. You can contact them in the order in which they appear in your item's bidding history from a link on your item auction page. But be sure to allow seven business days after your first email before giving up on the high bidder (and each subsequent bidder you contact). If all efforts to sell your item fail, you can request a credit for the final value fee due.
